HOLA Summer Camp 2020/ Campamento de Verano 2020

 
Around Latino-America in 7 weeks! ¡Alrededor de Latino-America en 7 semanas!

This summer, we invite your children to embark on a trip to exotic and interesting places-in Spanish! During our seven-week adventure, we will celebrate culture through music, art, poetry, theater, the science of inquiry, cooperative games, and most importantly, PLAY AND FUN! We will journey to local park events, museums, and presentations by various artists.

 

HOLA NYC’s Spanish Immersion Summer Camp is open to children ages 2 years to 5 years.  Our camp ensures that children learn with friends through an exciting, well-balanced and active learning environment.  At HOLA, we don’t teach Spanish, we teach in Spanish, fostering confidence in language acquisition. Every camper will enjoy an immersed experience while embarking on a journey through the Spanish language and culture. Whether your child is being exposed to Spanish for the first time or speaks fluently, our camp provides something for every child.

Summer Program Schedule

 

Week 1: Dominican Republic (July 6th - 10th)

Let’s travel to a tropical island country called the Dominican Republic and visit Santo Domingo, the capital. This island surrounded by mountains and great beaches is also the home for many animals. We will learn about the jicotea, garza, and the iguana. We will also enjoy exploring traditional music and food, such as Merengue the national style of music and dance. On our journey we will learn about some traditional foods like tostones, and sancocho.

 

Week 2: Cuba (July 13th - 17th)

Celia Cruz inspires us with her music and cheerful rhythm of La Isla Cubana ... with her phrase "sugar" we can discover the tune of drums and tropical flavor. We will build a “Bohío” with recyclable materials, which helped reduce the heat of the Caribbean. We learn that these were one of the first houses of the first inhabitants of Cuba. We will travel to the Ciénaga de Zapata where we will learn about the reptile called the alligator. We will celebrate the end of the week with a cuban carnaval.

 

Week 3: Ecuador (July 20th - 24th)

We will travel to South America and explore some of its unique geography, such as the famous Amazon Rainforest, the beautiful Galápagos Islands and the Andes mountains where we will visit Quito, the capital of Ecuador.  We will learn about traditional music and dancing (The pasillo) also some of the animals that live in this country; the papagayo bird, capuchino, monkey, the jaguar and tapir. We will prepare and savor some of their traditional meals as well as some we like and know about like the banana, over 300 varieties of bananas are grown in this country. 

 

Week 4:Costa Rica (July 27th - 31st)

We will travel to the country of Peace in Central America, to enjoy the wonderful nature, full of green mountains and great volcanoes. We will visit the jungle and enjoy learning about the sounds and habitats of exotic animals, such as the Titi monkey with a white head, the green, red and blue frogs; and humpback dolphins and whales in the sea. In art we will enjoy creating our own "boyeos" (Colorful mountain carts) and draw different scenes of life on its surface. Our aborigines will teach us about their different interests for the moon, the rain, as part of their scientific knowledge. We will eat mango and prepare typical dishes of the "ticos".

 
Week 5: Argentina (August 3rd - 7th)

We will travel to Argentina a country with a wide variety of regions, that include mountain ranges, valleys, deserts, and marshlands. We will begin in Patagonia exploring mountains, lakes and caves. We will enjoy exploring the animals found in this country as well as their habitats, such as the Yurumi, venado de las Pampas, and the Hornero. We will also learn about traditional music, food and entertainment .  Futbol is the national sport of the country. Empanadas are enjoyed by many as a special meal, which can be made in a variety of ways. We will enjoy listening to traditional music and dances such as the Tango and the Zamba.  
 

Week 6: Guatemala (August 10th - 14th)

We are traveling to Central America to visit a country called Guatemala, the country of the eternal Spring. Home to volcanoes, rainforests, and ancient mayan sites. We will explore different places like Antigua a city surrounded by volcanoes. Then we will travel to TIkal in the rainforest. There are many kinds of animals that live in this country and its various regions in different habitats, we will learn about the quetzal, national bird, jaguars,and ocelots. We will also enjoy exploring music and dance like the marimba which is also a wooden percussion instrument. We will finish our tour exploring different kinds of traditional foods such as tamales and pepian. 

 

Week 7: Venezuela (August 17th- 21st)

For our final week of camp, we will travel to South America to a wonderful country called Venezuela on an adventure of color and excitement, famous for it’s tropical climate, mountains, rainforest and desert. We will explore the highest mountain in Venezuela called the Pico Bolivar, covered with snow and small glaciers. We will have fun learning and dancing to joropo and gaitas. We will also enjoy learning and trying foods like delicious Arepas De Reina Pepiada. This country is also home to many exotic animals. We will learn about two types of birds, the Tucan and el corocoro rojo.
